22live Appointed as a DPA microphones rental partner

May 25th 2023

22live the UK’s next generation pro-audio service provider, has been appointed a DPA partner, alongside its recent investment into the brand.

DPA microphones have set the benchmark in numerous applications and are the manufacturer of choice for many engineers, and so it made sense for 22live to make a serious commitment to the brand. Simon Gladstone, 22live Technical Director comments “Our initial requirement has been for instrument microphones, and so we are now well equipped for orchestral applications with a stock of more than 40 x 4099 instrument mics, as well as the 2012 and 2015 condenser microphones.”

22live is working with several acts that will be playing with orchestral support to complement their usual line-up, and so the additional requirement for a larger inventory of instrument microphones became necessary fairly quickly.

“We are now well equipped for orchestral applications with a stock of more than 40 x 4099 instrument mics, as well as the 2012 and 2015 condenser microphones.”

James Gebhard, 22live’s Technical supervisor, and FOH Sound engineer spoke of his recent experience of using DPA; “I’m close now to completing a run of shows with James, where we have deployed numerous DPA mics on the band, and their orchestral support. DPA mics offer a super flat response which makes it easy for me to tweak where I want to, getting the response I want from them. I’ve also been really impressed by the new DPA 4055 Kick drum mic. It’s the first kick drum mic where you can really hear the tonal characteristics of the wood. James have two different drum kits and it’s amazing to hear that tonal difference on the same size kick drum. It gives me so much skin sound as well as the deep kick you’d expect from an internal mic.. The 4055 seems to cover the role of both an internal and external mic in one!”

Alex Penn, 22live Commercial Director goes on “DPA have so many leading products. The 4018 d:facto vocal mic we know we’re going to need, the 4099 we now have good stocks of, and all of the DPA headset mics are pretty much industry standard. It made sense for us to make a commitment to DPA and are pleased that they have also made a commitment to us. We look forward to developing our relationship and representing DPA going forwards.”
