On Event Production Co. update their wireless systems with 40 channels of Sennheiser EW-DX

Derby based ‘On Event Production Co.’ recently made a large investment into new RF systems, and came to 22live to help facilitate their purchase. Adam Dewhurst, On Event Production Co.’s Managing Director comments as to the reasons why purchase became necessary “Our growing workload meant that an expansion of our RF capabilities was needed to meet demand. After several years of reliable service from our EW300 G3 series, it became clear that an upgrade was necessary to keep pace with evolving technology and client needs.”
The launch of Sennheiser’s new EW-DX system and the availability of the quad receiver (EW-DX EM4 DANTE) falling at the right time made the decision to choose Sennheiser an easy one. Dewhurst continues “With several key clients in the financial services sector, encryption became a crucial factor in our decision to move towards digital wireless solutions. Having been a Sennheiser user for over 15 years, it made sense to continue with a brand we trust. The EW-DX offered the perfect solution—combining digital encryption, robust build quality, and integrated DANTE technology.”
The Sennheiser package, which encompassed 40 channels of wireless receivers and with DPA 4466 headsets and DPA 4060 lavalier mics in addition to Sennheiser transmitters, was delivered to On Event Production Co. in late August. On Event have packaged the system to go out in 4 channel sets that are easily scalable to the event they are being deployed to. Now that the systems have been in use for a short while Chris Thornton-Smith Production Engineer at On Event Production Co. was able to pass comment to the systems reception at the company; “We’ve had a great response from both freelance and our own engineers with the EW-DX. Everyone is loving how smart everything looks, how quickly the transmitters sync, and of course the Dante integration which is key to our workflow. This was also a breeze to setup too. All our Yamaha desks utilise Dante and it’s incredibly useful to save on analogue channels by going in digitally. We’ve also split them in broadcast scenarios too to multiple desks with no issues to do a broadcast mix of the live event, very handy! Everyone also really loves the e-ink displays on the transmitters too, saves on lots of tape, looks smarter and no more damaging the paint work!”

With regard to the systems improvement over their older G3 inventory Thornton-Smith went on;
“There is less of a need to worry about frequencies clashing with things nearby definitely, with them being both digital and having so much frequency range available… lots more than our G3 stock has! The fact that you can also link the RF of 4x 4ch units together without the need for an additional combiner is really great too. Having 16 channels of RF from only a pair of antennas and no distro, is a really nice feature. We have also packaged the systems as 3U 4-Way stacker racks too, meaning it’s incredibly easy to scale up to however many channels you need, while still keeping all the RF in one case. Each rack has an accompanying Peli 1560 with 4x HH (e865 condenser heads) and 4x Beltpacks with 4x DPA 4060 Lav’s, plus any additional DPA 4466 Headsets required. The rechargeable batteries are also a huge bonus too, they’ve got an incredibly long battery life and save on literally hundreds of AA batteries being used! So all in all it’s just a really professional system, really happy with it!”
Adam Dewhurst concludes as to the likely successes of the investment “With 40 channels of EW-DX now in our inventory, we will significantly reduce the need for cross-hiring RF equipment, improving efficiency and margin.
